LiveTrack not working

I’m using an iPhone 5S on the latest iOS versión available (12.4.9) and a Garmin 830 on FW 7.0.0. 2 weeks ago i had 2 quite impressive crashes on MTB and I realised that I should be using accident detection and LiveTrack feature, because “Find My iPhone” is not accurate enough. But I have used it since then on the Road and Mountain bikes and people that wants to know where am I just tells me that it is utterly useless, it stops in less than 4km since the route start (the best case, today, once it stopped in the street next to the start!) and never works again. Seriously?

The Bluetooth is enabled and works, no “Connection lost” notification pops up on the iPhone or “Phone disconnected” notification appears on the Garmin, everything is OK. Garmin Connect is in the latest version, has notifications enabled, location enabled always, everything is turned on.

Are there any tips to make this work??

Thanks!

  • Yesterday I took out the phone in the middle of the ride and Garmin Connect was telling that the Garmin was disconnected, I tried to reconnect it with no luck at all. What’s going on? So, if i have a crash and loose conscience my contacts won’t notice because the safety features don’t work due to software/firmware problems? GREAT!

  • I have frequent Bluetooth disconnects between my 830 and OnePlus phone.

At the same time I have the old Fenix 3 watch that never disconnects.

I'm guessing it's something related to the new BLE protocol.

Hello from Spain. yesterday iI update the 830 Garmin to de new 7.0.0 software version and the automatic start of Livetrack don´t work. All is ok and turned on. The only way to make Livetrack work is doing it manual

  • I used to have a lot of issues with the Edge connecting to my Galaxy S8.  It'd work once, then not again until I redid everything.  Then, for no reason discernible to me, it started working fine and has been that way for over a year.

Now that it does connect to my phone realiably, I often ride through areas where there is no cell reception.  Livetrack, of course, doesn't work in these areas, though once I get back into cell coverage, it seems it fills in what when on when out of cell coverage.   Anyway, it's not something I rely on to save my bacon.  I always give my SO a printout of my intended route and when to expect me back.  I have been considering getting a Garmin InReach satellite communicator as lately most all my mtbing is outside of cell coverage.
