Some trails missing on Edge 830

Just received a Garmin Edge 830 MTB edition, with Trailforks preinstalled, and trails are showing up on the map. However many of the trails in my local trail network are missing. There is no issue viewing these trails on the iPhone app... I was hoping that the Garmin would display the trails exactly as the appear on the trailforks website, or iOs app, but so far it is not the case. Has anyone experienced this and found a solution?

  • It is quite possible that the maps on the 830 are not as up to date as the other maps you have.  You will have to wait until there is a map update if that is the case and hope the trails will be included.

Until the data is updated on the Garmin maps (which doesn't happen all that often) - you may need to download the GPX files for the missing maps, load them into your Garmin courses, and set them to always be visible.  I also download Trailforks .IMG (Garmin map) files directly from Trailforks and they are also outdated....  Trailforks updates those files maybe once or twice per year.  I'm unsure if Garmin gets their data from those files, but I'd imagine so.

Thanks for this. Since posting, I found some info about downloading your own gpx files and this seems to be the way that most people are getting around this issue. Slightly cumbersome, but so be it if it works...

  • Just got the most recent trailfoks map update, still missing a lot of my local, lesser ridden trails. The work around is to download individual maps from Trailforks and set them to "active" and suppress your other maps.

The catch is that the trailforks maps don't have topo data on them and there's no fast way to change which maps are active. But they are a lot more up to date than what's being pushed out the door by Garmin.
