What is the "time remaining" field on Strava live segments referring to?

I have noticed that the "time remaining" is often longer than the time on the segment itself initially. Is there any way to change this field to make it the "time behind" field that appears on other Garmin devices. TY.

  • If you edit the Data Fields on the Segment Data Screen, you can change one of these to display Time Ahead. This data field should automatically switch to Time Behind if you are in fact not ahead.

  • can i switch to segment timer? I found only the entire workout timer but no segment timer((

  • Currently there is no segment timer available as a data field. The best work around is to display the lap timer and push the lap button when you start a segment. Not ideal, but it will give you the time information you are looking for.

  • I recently edited my Strava segment data fields and I lost the + / - tIke ahead or behind… do you know how to restore this? Is it because I’m displaying 6 fields instead of 2 or 4?

  • The data field you want to add is the Time Ahead data field. This is under the Time Category.

You can change the layout or the data fields for this page under the Activity profile settings.

  • I just found this! I added it to the segment page on the 1040.

Can you tell me the TIME AHEAD (which I assume changes to time behind), is time ahead of what?

    time ahead/behind my

    PR

    GOAL

    KOM

    thanks!

  • Time ahead/behind is based on whatever VP is currently active. If you have auto-selection enabled then that may change during the segment.

  • VP= virtual partner I guess.

I have not set a VP anywhere or done anything with VP since getting he 1040. Is there a setting I should check?

If the VP is the FIRST thing in the leader priority LIST, then that (as you know) mine is set to GOAL for me, BUT still shows PR all the time up top of screen.. working on this.

Thanks for hanging with me on this annoyance.

I feel like I am missing something.

  • When you set this feature against your PR, is it measuring your distance in comparison to where you were in your PR or is it taking an average? For example suppose that your PR on a 500 ft climb includes a flat out sprint for the last 100 ft of the climb. If you match your pace for the first 400 ft of the climb, will the time ahead/behind feature tell you you're on track?

  • Sorry I'm using Virtual Partner as a generic way of describing the time you are racing against

So if the top of the segment page shows PR then that is you current VP. If then changes to KOM then that is now your current VP.

This not related to the course VP feature.

The time/distance ahead/behind is being computed at every data point that is in the segment file for the VP you are currently racing.
