Garmin Connect short ride

Hi. When I spin up my wheel to get my Edge 830 to pick up my Gen 3 speed sensor, Connect registers it as a short ride. Usually 2-3 seconds long. Anyone know how to stop this from happening? Thanks.

  • If you have the Edge set to auto-start and you spin the wheel fast enough such that the threshold speed is reached, it will automatically start recording and you will have stop recording and reject saving the ride.  You can spin the wheel more slowly, it doesn't need to be fast to wake up the wheel sensor, or change the start option to manual or prompted.

  • Thanks for your reply. The issue isn't so much to do with the Edge 830 (I have it set up as a manual start), it's more with the Connect app. My speed sensor is connected via Bluetooth to my iPhone (maybe that's unnecessary). I think until Garmin give us an option to ignore rides of a minimum time, I'm going to have to remove the pairing from my iPhone so that Connect doesn't continually record these false rides. Cheers.

  • Remove your speed sensor from connect... otherwise everything will be in duplicate. The sensor records the rides independently to the EDGE, and Connect isn't smart enough to remove these.

I made the mistake to connect my speed sensor the connect app after having it for a couple months... it took me a long time to delete all the duplicates and fragmented rides, since it splits a ride quite quickly if you rest a little too long in one spot.

Battery life and software updates to the speed sensor are handled via the EDGE, and your battery life can be checked in your ride summary on Garmin connect.com.
