Garmin edge 830 and Tacx Vortex resistance problems

Hello, I have problem using the edge 830 and smart trainer, with Garmin Connect workouts. I tried couple of different workouts, even  those from garmin training plans. Problem is that the Vortex don't resist on proper power if on edge 830 workout is warm up, recovery or cool down section. If there is cycling section than computer set the right resistance. I have edge 820 previously and everything work ok. On edge 830 is nearly impossible to complete workout from Garmin connect or Training peaks, etc. in ERG trainer mode. It needs to be shifting a lot if I wish to achive desire wattage. On edge 820 I complete every workout in the same bike shift. The trainer and garmin edge 820 synchronized the resistance wattage perfectly, my only concern was proper cadence. I hope that someone have solution for that problem. I tried almost everything. Tacx Vortex is correct paired with edge, first smart trainer than power sensor from Vortex and at last speed and cadence sensor from Vortex.

Kind regards Dusan

  • I'm not familiar with the Tacx Vortex, but if you're currently paired via bluetooth, try pairing via Ant+ instead.  For bike sensors, ANT+ often works better than BT, particularly for smart trainers.

You only need to connect it as a smart trainer.  Power speed and cadence will be reported.   Do not connect it separately as a PM, speed, and cadence sensors.
