Problems importing courses

I have some rides on RideWithGPS That I want to import into my 830 as courses.  I usually just use the ConnectIQ RWG app and import the pinned ride.  But I’ve had a couple lately that don’t work.  One was actually from a friend who has a 1030.  I tried to manually copy them to the new files folder and on restart they disappeared from the new files folder but didn’t show up in courses.

The last time I opened the route in RWG to check it. It looked fine but as a guess I renamed it.  Then it worked.  Some of the course names have spaces.   Is there a restriction on the length or format for the name?  I’ve seen comments referring to this but I don’t see any specifics.

One thing that I love about my 830 is being able to pick the course at the route start.  This sort of sucks when it doesn’t work.

This means the Garmin can't convert the file…

  • Yes I know.  I also know that RWG is a good site.  They host our club rides and I was the one that arranged that.  Been using them for years.   I don’t get what the problem was.  Like I said just saving it seemed to fix it.

    anyway, thanks for your time.

  • One thing a little unusual about this is that it's a "trip" (a recorded ride uploaded to RWGPS). It still should work (and it work did for me).

  • Yes, it’s a ride I did a while ago with my 800.  I have my rides export to RWG when saved to GC.

  • the limit for saved courses/routes is 100 on the Edge 1030 Plus. You won't be able to either wirelessly download from RWGPS or download via USB with either .fit or .tcx files if you already have 100 courses saved. Delete saved routes from the 'courses' folder and then proceed with 'unpinning' and then 'pinning' the courses you want to transfer to the Garmin. That should do the trick.
