Adding a new destination to active route?

You shouldn’t end the ride but just select navigate to the new destination so the device will record only one ride.

No problem i do it all the time! Sometimes when you have to stop for a long time you can stop the ride and turn off the device. When you turn on again it will resume the ride. 

The most important thing is to not end the ride.

Recording a ride is separate from navigation. You don't need to be using navigation to record a ride.

If you choose another course or a location to navigate, the device will ask you if you want to stop the current course. That won't stop the recording of the ride.

The map screen has a stop sign in the lower right. That's another way to turn off navigation.

Does somebody read the manual?

@dpawlyk has right, you can navigate without starting the ride ,

But the intresting ideea was , to be able to add an point C in the middle of the course without stoping it...
