Edge 830 completely off altitude reading

Former Member

Hello all,

I have been having completely off altitude measurements from my Edge 830.

I mean "totally off". Everything from displaying a negative grade when going uphill, to positive when going downhill to completely bizare elevation profiles...

Please find below a few examples of the profile recorded/measured by the Edge 830 and the actual altitude profile:

Example 1: Measured/recorded by Edge 830:

Example 1: Actual altitude profile:

Example 2: Measured/recorded by Edge 830:

Example 2: Actual altitude profile:

Is there anything I can do to fix this or is it straight to product support / replacement / trash?

Best regards,

Daniel

  • In my experience the positive grade when descending and negative grade when climbing is due to the long time constant in the gradient filter. I've seen this happen many times when changing from climb to descend and vice versa. This also seems to happen after a brief flat during a climb.

What are you using for your truth data above?

  • I'm experiencing such a problem since July. But Garmin does not solve it.
