Routing on Garmin 1000

I am having issues with my Garmin 1000 routing and would like some advice. I have created a route in Garmin connect which was sent to the Edge 1000 without any issues. The route went from my home contained a small loop resulting in it coming back on the route a went out on back to my home address.

For some reason when i had completed the loop and should have then followed the route back ( same as route out) my Garmin took me back onto the original loop. I only noticed this after a had gone a short distance. I therefore stopped and had to follow the route visually which meant that the Garmin kept registering i was off course.

This has happened on other rides where by the route has crossed the original and taken me back onto the already completed route. I have also noticed that it alters the mileage to distance. On this occasion it went from 7 miles left to 18 miles !!!!.

Any help greatly appreciated as this is now getting frustrating

  • Why did you post this to the 830 subforum??

So, route is like a lollipop? Out along the stick, around the candy, and then returning along the stick?

Honestly, this is an issue with all the units.

If you make the correct turn back onto the stick, the unit should figure out what leg you are on.

I don't know of any reliable way to modify the route so it will announce the trunk properly.

If you kept an eye on the map, you might be able to see what turn you need to make.

It's possible that the course would work better if you "hand draw" the transition from the stick to the loop so that there's a separation between the out-bound and in-bound track at the end of the stick.

You can hand draw routes in ridewithgps (not sure about Connect). PM the course link to me.
