Recording a simple ride?

How do i accomplish simple, basic tasks like recording a ride? My Garmin Forerunner 35 is straight forward.... press activity button, select bike, select start. When complete, select stop and save.

The Garmin operator manuals are written for Garmin experts and don't make a lot of sense to even experts.

How about a Garmin 830 Edge for Dummies manual?

On 830:

I select the bike icon, it goes to data screen 1.... and..... NOTHING happens. I see no "start", "stop", "record", "finish", "save", or anything else that makes it record. Seems i have a 400 dollar paperweight.

I need serious step by step-by-step help.

Crazy... i never have seemed so simple-minded yet absolutely nothing seems intuitive on this device. Paid extra 100 bucks for touch screen so didn't even think about using buttons other than off/on...…

You have made the first step. Next step is to press the Start/Stop button on lower right of the unit. This is a physical button, not on the touch screen. Press the same button to pause/stop the activity. An option to save or discard the ride will then pop up on the screen.

And yes, the manuals suck. But look here for a little detail:

I appreciate your quick reply and help. The link now makes sense. I couldn't find the symbol on touch screen.... repeat duh!

I would love to find a Garmin 830 for Dummies book as I am full of questions on basic stuff.

I think the reason for using a physical button is not being able to turn off the recording by accidentally touching something. Same for the lap button.

A little additional info. I also use the Edge Remote which makes the whole start/stop & screen scrolling a whole lot easier while riding.

You're not the only one. Here's a post from about a month go with the same question. Blame modern smart phones. Everybody is used to no physical buttons and no manual .

Thanks. Considered the remote yet decided to get the dongle that pairs my bike electronics (Di2 plus has buttons under grips at top) with Garmin (or other) devices. We shall see how it all works!
