How to navigate to a address on shortest route

Hi,

I have some troubles using the navigation feature of the edge 830. When I'm riding with friends and then want to have the shortest route home at the end it navigates me really crazy ways.  If I know the area I just follow the way I know is the shortest but on areas I'm not familiar it navigates instead of 5km 10km + ... this is really painful. It's there any way to configure the edge navigates the shortest route?

I don't see the benefit of the garmin if I have to use my mobile phone for navigation Disappointed

    I generally don't use the Edge for generating routes as it's usually wack one way or the other, but what do you have set for route preferences and avoidances?  These can affect the type and degree of routing wackiness.
