830 and IPhone

I researched this thing like crazy before I bought it and the reviews loved it. I go and drop my $500 on this thing and get home excited to pair it up and go for a ride...not happening. I’ve been trying to sync the 830 with my iPhone for the past 4 hours with no success. It has no problem pairing and finding the device but when it’s time to sync them up, I get the same error message that something went wrong with the sync and to try again. I have tried all of the different trouble shooting methods and none of them have worked. I’ve deleted the Garmin connect app and reinstalled with no success.

This is really disappointing as this thing is

1.) Supposed to be awesome

2.) It wasn’t cheap.

3.) It’s a Garmin product

  • Hi,

You have probably thought of this, but I was new to an iphone and did not realise that I had to give permission to allow the Connect app to use the bluetooth connection. This was why I had initial problems linking to the phone.

  • Sorry, just read your question again and realised my mistake. You have raised a different issue, syncing rather than pairing. My devices do sync via bluetooth, but it is painfully slow. Given that my 830 fails to transfer all data via wifi about 50% of the time, and given that the bluetooth sync is slow I am forced to use a cable. As you say, this is disappointing for such an expensive device.

    I wish I could help.

Actually, I finally got this figured out. I had to open up my laptop and go to Garmin.com. I plugged the 830 in and it had a ton of updates. Once those were complete, the 830 paired up with my iPhone no problem.

    Hi,

Could you please add the steps you follow to do this, I have this issue now and don’t know if I’m doing something wrong.

Super easy! Go to Garmin.com and plug in your 830. The software will automatically see it and prompt you to update this software.
