Distance to turn not updating

Occasionally, but not all the time, the distance to turn in the upper left corner of the map page doesn't update as I approach the turn, so I am stuck looking for a turn that doesn't come.  Here are some screenshots as an example.  Note the time and distance advance in the bottom data fields, but the distance to the next turn permanently remains at 500 ft.:

I assume this is a bug?

    If you see 'Follow Route' then there is a period of missing turn prompts.  If you scroll through the list of turns you should see that at some point later in the route the prompts will start again.  The distance to turn will start working again when the navigation prompts start again. I have experienced this.

    What maps are you using?  I have found that this bug doesn't appear for me if I use the Garmin maps.  I experienced this with custom maps I make myself in certain areas.  I think I have managed to tweak my map creation so it doesn't happen.

    Trailforks.  I made this route on the Trailforks website and then found it under "My Routes" in the Trailforks IQ app on my 830.

    FWIW:  If you're riding trails, I've found that there can many more errors in the map data for trails then there are for roads.  In some areas, the trail data is good and in others there are many  "anomalies" which leads to weird nav instructions.  Map data not only includes the gps track of the roads/trails, but also properties of the road, intersections, properties of intersections, etc. If any of these contain errors, nav instructions can be affected.
