Hugely inflated elevation on routes

I'm running 5.50 on my 830 and have enabled the automatic route sync from Strava.

I've noticed recently that the edge 830 is displaying completely incorrect elevation for routes, between 2 and 4 times the real elevation.

I have a route that is 1413 metres on Strava

https://www.strava.com/routes/22318331

but the Edge 830 says 3927 metres.

They're also correct in GCM (displays ascent at 1413M)

  • Just to add if I export a GPX of the route from Strava and upload that via Garmin/Newfiles the elevation is correct (well, close, it says 1360m)

  • This is more or less known issue with new autosync. Data goes through Garmin's servers, and gets wrong altitude data from there. To my knowledge Garmin is aware of it.

Only workaround for now is to disable the autosync, and continue using Strava app to download routes. Same issue with Komoot too.

  • Just adding that this is not specifically Edge 830 issue, it seems to happen with all devices supporting the autosync. I have seen it with my Edge 530 and Forerunner 645.

  • Great to know it's a known issue, sounds like a backend problem so hopefully can be fixed without new firmware.

I have a similar problem. But my correct elevation gets lost between garmin connect and the Edge 830. I've planned my route with strava und starred it. In the connect app the total elevation is 2058m. If I transfer this route via android connect app to my edge, the total elevation on the Edge is 8570m.

If I export the route from strava in tcx-format and import it via the "NewFiles" folder to my edge, the elevation is correctly shown. But on this way, my favourite-segments will not be shown on the routelist-page.

  • Is autosync the same as auto upload?

It is my understanding that you can turn elevation correction on or off on the Garmin Conect website.

  • Almost a year later the problem continues. I have uploaded a gpx course to Connect, and it says that it is 1512m of positive elevation gain. When synchronized with the Edge 830 version 8.10 it tells me that the positive elevation gain is 3536 m.

Why is this happening? Why don't Garmin fix it?

I understand that this affects the correct operation of the Climbpro

    Greetings

  • Same issue a week ago, elevation was wildly out.

  • I get the same problem,  over 2000ft difference  yesterday
