Question about elevation

Hey, When is make a course with garming connect i get a diffrent elevation gained than when i ride that exact same course.

For example did a ride yesterday with 682m elevation according to the gpx file made with garming connect. When i finished my ride it showed i only did 423m of elevation. Why does this happen ? I feel like the 682M was more correct since i have had previous 400M elevation courses with the same lenght and this one had way more hills. I have had this with some other courses as well.

So which one is most likely correct and is there a way i can fix this ?

  • The elevation from courses created with Garmin connect is always inflated. Don't trust that one... The 423 elevation of your Edge 830 are probably very accurate

  • c'est plutôt inquiétant , que réponds Garmin à ce sujet ??

  • It is my understanding that when you plan a route with Garmin Connect the elevation gain and loss is calculated from a Digital Elevation Model. The Edge 830 determines elevation from the internal barometric altimeter. The altimeter is not very accurate, but better than the elevation obtained from GPS.

The barometetric altimeter will drift with temerature and barometric pressure changes. If you save a location and enter the elevation at that location, the Edge 830 will automatically calibrate the altimeter when you are at that location. This will minimize the starting elevation error from barometric pressure and temperature.
