Edge 830 MTB navigation trouble

Former Member
Former Member

Hello,

First, sorry for my bad English. I use online translator to explain my problem ^^

I had the opportunity to test the Edge 830 in the "Gravel bike" and "Road" activity profiles.

The "Gravel bike" profile made me discover places in my region that I didn't even know, dirt roads, trails, ... in short, only happiness.

Unfortunately, I was quickly disappointed when I switched to the "MTB" activity profile.

Indeed, where the Gravel mode makes me use dirt roads, trails, woods, ... the "MTB" profile makes me avoid them!

On a bike ride of +/- 25mi, the MTB mode makes me do 80 to 90% of road !

And when I was taking dirt roads I knew, the GPS was quick to get me back on the road !

This is not what I expected from a GPS dedicated to MTB.

The problem is not new, according to the publications on some discussion forums dedicated to bikes.

Is there a solution in sight? Has Garmin already expanded on the subject ?

Thanks in advance for your comments

  • I use the gravel profile on my MTB, but I’ve turned on the MTB day options on the gravel profile. This works for me.

What do you mean by "mtb day option" ?

  • That’s predictive text on annoying Apple changing stats to day.

    I meant stats.

There’s an option to turn on MTB metrics on any activity now. So I use the gravel activity with MTB stats and screen activated. It still routes me off road for navigation.

    OK.

So in the end you use the gravel mode for your MTB trips, we agree?

Do you leave all the options in Gravel mode?

Because it's also possible in the menu "navigation/route planning" of the activity profile "GRAVEL BIKE" to choose "gravel", "MTB" and even "multi-terrain bike".

My menu is in French so it's possible that what I say may seem different from what's on your menu ;)

You know what I mean about these options or not ?
