Smart Trainer External Control

when pairing a smart trainer as an indoor trainer via ant+, is there any way to disable control functionality and let other apps control (say zwift)? as it stands now, pairing it as a smart trainer is the only way i can find to see speed and distance, but if you do so you can't use any other app at all (zwift, trainer road, fulgaz, rouvy, sufferfest etc) because the garmin has full control of the bike and won't let the other apps control resistance. huge error on garmin's part if it's not possible

  • I have an Elite Direto.  I use Trainerroad and have Trainerroad control the trainer.  I can see speed (and therefore distance) on my Garmin.  I can pair the trainer to the Garmin as a speed/cadence sensor.  It will depend on what you can pair your trainer as.  I could pair my trainer as a trainer if I wanted to have the Garmin control it.

    Speed/distance isn't particularly relevant on a trainer.

  • Like Wongataa I pair my Direto and my Kickr as sensors, not as trainers, works fine.
