Garmin 830 timer stops approximately 1:03 into ride

I recently started cycling again after stopping five years ago. New road bike, but using old Garmin 510 with no issues. I just purchased Favero Assioma duo power meter pedals. After going for a ride with the PM and the 510, I noticed my timer stopped at approximately 1:03 into ride. It was still displaying power, speed, cadence etc. This was at a good speed, I wasn’t slowing or stopping. PM for cadence, speed from 510 gps. I figured older 510 unit was the problem, so I purchased a new 830. Guess what same issue with two rides, timer stops at 1:03. I then need to stop and save ride so it will record data again. With the new 830 I tried adding my Trek duo tap sensor for speed, same problem. Then I tried using the Garmin cadence sensor that came with the bundle and still timer stops at 1:03. Any clue? Waiting to hear back from Favero.

  • Do you have a Garmin speed sensor with your bundle (wraps around the front wheel hub)?  Use that instead of the Trek duo -- other people have been having trouble with those dual speed/cadence sensors.

Do you have AutoStart turned on?   You might try disabling that and just starting manually.  If you are using GPS for speed it might be losing satellite and causing the thing to think you stopped.  You can also set a speed threshold, but I don't understand the value of the AutoStart feature -- if you have stopped long enough so that you forget to start your ride again then you are really doing two rides anyway.

Are you always going on the same route?  That is, 1:03 occurs at the same spot?  It might be some weird EM interference at that location -- I have had my sensors bug out at the top of a mountain near a microwave repeater.

    Or your device is buggered.

Hard reboot to reload firmware fixed issue. Works great with Favero PM and Trek Duo Trap for speed.
