Edge 830 LiveTrack Issue, Date frozen, Telemetry not displaying anymore.

In general for me, the LiveTrack function is hit or miss, very unreliable...which is a shame because thats one of the main reasons I bought the Edge. Latest issue is that the LiveTrack session date that appears on emails sent to contacts is stuck on 6/09/20. For me that was 7-8 rides ago. In addition since the 6/09 ride, all telemetry (speed, distance, elevation) is not displayed on the LiveTrack map the way it used to. Have a trouble ticket opened with Garmin support, but can anyone give me some ideas to try while I'm waiting for resolution? Doesn't mater if I use auto start or I start it manually.

  • I have also found Livetrack function to be sporadic.  This is not a fix for that, but since you need the cell phone to use it anyway, you might try other tracking apps. Strava Beacon, and Glympse are two options but there are many more.

  • Good idea, and another example on the *** from Garmin. Of all a the usefull and less usefull functions on a 830, i really wonder how many % are working. On my device the true up is wayyy of with my fenix 6 saphire, and also with GC. But guess they have to come up with something new to «justify» the new models. Would not surpise me at all if the 840 or whatever it would be named come with functions like sunbathing and other irelevant stuff. By the way, i have never tried livetrack, but based on what i read in the forum i do not have high hopes. Good luck.

And obviously intensy minutes are not important for cyclists. Not in Garmin’s world.

  • Strava Beacon info not quite as good as Garmin but at least it works reliably. I've spent way to much time trying to debug Garmin software.

  • It seems that if the ride starts out in an area without cell coverage, Livetrack doesn't start.  This can be pretty common in mountainous areas. On a few occasions (last year)  it started when I rode into cell coverage, but it hasn't done that for a while now.

Ideally, it would start when a ride started irrespective of cell coverage and would buffer your track uploading it when in areas of coverage.

  • All my rides start, stop and continue in areas with good cell coverage and clear line of site for the GPS and I still have problems starting and stopping LiveTrack. The data my wife gets in the LiveTrack email feed is totally useless. I carry my phone in the back pocket of my jersey so the BT connection should be perfect.

  • +1

Livetrack is not working anymore for me also. It is sporadic. The starting is erratic, and when the communication with Garmin servers is interrupted during a ride, some parts of the course are lost.

I have read in GCM thread that Livetrack is KO for Edge devices since GCM version 4.30.

Is Livetrack OK for somebody with Edge 830 and the last version of GCM (4.31.1)?
