What causes my Edge to determine that my training was "unproductive?"

I just busted my ass on a 62-mile ride with a group of very strong riders and a lot of high-intensity mixed in with hill climbs and tempo-speed riding.  When I finished the ride, my Edge told me that my training was "unproductive."

How in the world can what I just went through be "unproductive?"  Is there some wacky algorithm that figures this out?  Is it trying to tell me I need to ride harder?  It is ludicrous.

  • Have a look at the numbers behind , to much high aerob/anaerob over too long time can cause this. Igot the same on mine, but i also can have the same on the fenix 6 . Structured training is the key. Too long time at the time in zone 4 can cause ,this. Have you editet the heart rate zones on the Edge itself, or do you use standard Garmin? I’ve seen many times that a long to medium long ride in moderat tempo, heart rate zone two will give me productiv. A lot to read about this on the firstbeat webpage. By the way, i use the zone’s from the Norwegion olympiatop, who is a lot different than the standard Garmin.

unproductive simply means less power to high heart rate.

  • Look at the reports-training status on the connect web page or training stats on the app. See what it says next to load focus. That is where the Garmin gives you a hint about its opinions.
