2 fit files from one session?

Did a ride yesterday and when I finished it saved ride. All normal.

Then on Strava when my ride was synced it had part of the route, but not all, it seemed to finish part way round route (I had not stopped Garmin Edge 830 manually).

A few moments later, a full recorded ride appeared on Strava in addition to the part way one. However this "full" one had janky elevation detail, and had no PBs / 2nds / 3rd best PRs listed on any segments in Top Results even though I got a few. It almost seems like it thinks I've not done this route before, whereas I've done it multiple times.

Looking at the Garmin Activites folder, I see I have two fit files saved for yesterday, one being 11KB (I assume the part way one) and one being 13KB (I assume the full one without records info).

Googling this got no relevant results as far as I could see.

  • I don't know about why you have two fit files, but regarding the records: neither Garmin nor the device have any clue about Strava KOMs, PRs, etc. -- the segment detection and record keeping all happens on Strava.

  • oh I know that, but it’s weird on the complete route Strava didn’t detect any results from the data.

I wish I kept the incomplete route that was uploaded as I am interested if that did have the result data, but I deleted it.

Strange that two fit files have been recorded by the edge tho, never happened before.
