Since 5.50 device switches off and turns on again

Since the update to 5.50 I had the phenomenon three times that the device simply switched off during an activity and an ongoing navigation. The device then restarted and navigation and activity could be continued with a push on the start button. That's annoying.

  • Now it gets interesting: today it happened twice. Once at the exact (!) same location as two weeks ago. Same route created with Garmin Connect. Another rider also had the route on his Garmin Edge 830 (not yet installed 5.50) and did not have the problem.

Never had this with the older version.

  • It happened to me today right at the end of my ride, just when I was 5 min from home!

  • Good to know that I'm not the only one. Do you use 5.50?

I had it during the last 3-4 weeks (don't remember the exact date when I made the update) for maybe 8-10 times. I don't see there any rhythm or logic, it just happens. But the fact that it today happend at the exact same location is really strange. I was wondering if it's caused by the location or the navigation data because I used the same route like two weeks ago.

  • Happened to me yesterday on a 50km ride.

This is only the second ride with version 5.50 and it has never happened before, so I'm fairly confident that this is a new bug introduced with this version of the firmware. We are going backwards....

  • Yeah, never had it before in more than a year with the old firmware (which had a couple of others bugs).

  • I have had this too - 830 has powered itself off and seems to restart - at least my ride was still there when it turned back on.

Same here. Once it crashed and once it rebooted at pretty much the same position on my rides.

  • Had this with my 820 too a while ago - would crash at the same junction on the same road for a while - thought it was a GPS dead spot for a while that was causing the error. That said my 830  (I've had for six months at least hasn't done this until the recent update)

Here the same last couple of days, one ride it happened 3 times and always just after a climb was completed. Hope that there will be a fix soon, pretty annoying because you have to wait for the route calculation if you use navigation.

Same here, garmin crashed two times last week. Once halfway the course. Yesterday at the beginning of my course. Never had issues before last update. Garmin device crashes and starts up again, then I can save or delete my exercise.

Also my speedsensor fails often. I have to reconnect my sensor when this happens.
