Starting Edge with deactived Light network

I would really like to see an option to deactivate the automatic search for certain sensors, esp. the light network, when switching on my Edge 830. Mostly, it is very annoying that after switching on the Edge 830 it searches for the light network and automatically tries to switch on the lights, if it has found them. If you do this within a certain distance from your bike having the lights installed, the Edge always shows hints that the connection to the light network has been allocated, lost and reallocated again. These messages make it somewhat complicated to modify the settings of the Edge when e.g. sitting in your living room and having your bike 5 meters away.

Thererfore, I would really like to see a simple switch that gives me the possibility to deactivate this automatic process for certain sensors and to manually switch the search for these sensors on when I do need them.

Best regards,

Thorsten

  • Hi, maybe try submitting this an a suggestion to Garmin direct.

  • Does the "Enable" button not do what you want? Thats what I use.

  • Although it disables the light network from forming it also disables the connection to a Varia Rear Radar RLT510 at the same time.  This despite the fact that Radar appears as a separate sensor in the pool.  If you try and connect to the Radar with the Light Network disabled it fails.  Thats what happened why i tried that anyway.

The other aspect to consider is how many taps, presses did it take you to get the Light Network setup screen and would you want to do this before every ride?

  • fair enough, a few things that might help though:

In 5.50 the light network isn't activated on the indoor profile

The lights can be set to come on only when the timer is started instead of the default of when the edge is started

To disable sensors, I swiped down, chose sensors, then scrolled to the sensor to disable. Wasn't too many clicks and I can't think of an easier way to implement that function really.

It's also possible to rename most sensors if you have a few bikes which makes them much easier to identify. For some reason you can't rename lights, I'd like to see that.

  • The usage of the Enable button might by a work around, but in fact, it isn't. The problem is that I do not want to think of switching off the Light Network before switching off the Edge. If you have forgotten this, the Edge will try to connect to the Light Network as soon as it is switched on.

I therefore would prefer an option that automatically switches off the Light Network when switching off the Edge. In addition, there must be a simple switch on the initial settings page for reactivating it. Or, it could be automatically reactivated when a certain velocity threshold is reached.

  • Presumably it's the activating of the light network thats annoying? The messages, the flashing lights etc? I get that when I fire my edge up and lights in the garage start flashing.

Maybe thats what needs changing rather than disabling detection.
