after update to 5.50 Edge 830 still locked up during a ride :(

I have still the same problem with my edge 830. After about 2 hour ride edge was locked, screen was locked,  and I have to make hard reset. After reset every data are saved without EPOC Disappointed

  • this is about every 3 rides for me.  Different profiles, indoor or outdoor, different sensors.  none of it matters, 5.5 keeps locking up.  Sometimes it locks and reboots itself, sometimes it just hard locks.

Seriously bad stuff, I'll start reporting again on the beta channel with 5.51, but there needs to be a renewed focus on reliability.

  • This has never happened to me; I think people who are experiencing this must have something in common which I -- and others without these difficulties -- don't share.

Here are three things I *never* do:

    1. I never use BT sensors with Edge 830
    2. I never use indoor workouts with Edge 830 -- I always drive my Kickr using Rouvy or Xert or some other external app that does a much better job of displaying and executing a training plan.
    3. Live connect / incident reporting

Additionally, I almost never use courses or routing.

Here's what I do have on the 830:

    • Ant+ sensors (Garmin speed, Assioma power/cadence, Garmin HRMplus strap)
    • Varia 510 light/radar
    • Xert Segment Hunter connectIQ data field
    • MyBikeRadarTraffic ConnectIQ app
    • WiFi upload/download
    • Garmin Connect app on my iPhone connected for calls/message alerts

Maybe something from that first list is common amongst people who have freezes?

  • When outside I have a garmin heart rate strap, duotrap, and ngeco power meter.  All running Ant+ to my 830.  No connect IQ apps running.

It has locked up with the above and nothing else.

  • Interesting.  On this other thread  posted that they had trouble when using the GSC10 dual cadence/speed sensor, which is basically the same thing as the duotrap.  Maybe there is some problem with the way the 830 interfaces with the dual sensor -- maybe getting two signals from the same Ant+ device blows its mind.

I'm using the Garmin discrete speed sensor wrapped around the hub and I get cadence from my pedals.

What happens if you use cadence from your power meter and get speed from GPS?  (i.e., disable the duotrap)?

I'm new to the 830. Running 5.50. I have an old Garmin HR strap and GSC-10 I used with the Edge 305. They work great with the 830. I also have the RTL515 paired and use mybikeradar traffic, RWGPS IQ app, routecourse, Varia battery, etc. I have not seen any lockups with rides 3 to 4 hours long so far.
