Firmware not upgradeable???

Hi I have tried to install this v5.51 beta firmware manually by dragging the GUPDATE.gcd file into the Garmin folder and then unplugging the device. When I do the latter, nothing happens.

My issue now is that the 830 is plenty buggy on v5.2 and I am not able to get any OTA updates by going to the About section of the device menu. It's stuck on v5.2.

Can anyone advise what I should do please?

The unit is a local Singapore authorised distributor set if that matters.

Thanks

Lucas

  • why you don't update to 5.50 first?

Doesn't work either. Basically the drag and drop manual update doesn't work

  • could it be, that it is a APAC device?

Does that matter? I am new to this forum and Garmin GPS units for that matter.

If being an ASIA device makes a difference, I'll be very shocked!

All the updates in between and including 5.5 appear to address the very instability bugs that I am encountering. Why ASIA device owners are not thought of as needing stable devices is bizarre as I it appears that am encountering the very same problems with the 830 as users in Europe and the US - random freezing, lost connections with Ant+ devices on wake from sleep, etc

The local distributor's tech in Singapore, Convergent Technologies, claim over the phone that they can't help obtain a v5.5 firmware, and its up to Garmin to release it. I've tried to manually install v5.5, tried using Express, and both approaches do not work. What a bunch of nonsense!

Is Garmin a brand serious about having an international business or what? Maybe Singapore users should just hop onto Ebay or Amazon US and import their sets to avoid this absurd region locking just to have ready access to the latest firmware updates. Why bother buying locally from the official importer if Garmin cannot be bothered to roll out firmware updates at the same time here as for the US/Europe?

  • i don't know, if there are APAC Edge 830 arround, but Edge 1030 and a lot of Garmin watches, they will get firmware updates very late, mostly this devices are a lot cheaper then the none APAC versions (~100 USD/EUR).

I your case you can try a full reset of device, or try to contact Garmin Support
