Integration of Strava segments into courses

Hi,

are there any plans to integrate Strava segments into courses before they are sent to the device?

Mostly I use courses planed via komoot. As of now there is no notification of segments while I'm following a course - as far as I understand, the segment data must be integrated into the course data to show up while riding, which seems strange because all the information is available but ok...

Since komoot and Strava recently changed segment and course data sync to first load all the stuff into garmin connect - omitting the connect IQ apps - wouldn't it be easy for garmin to finally do that data integration?

Regards

Philip

  • Currently the matching is done by the course creator (Strava) and sent to Garmin.

  • This sort of (given the usual margin of buginess) works for Garmin (as opposed to Strava) segments. I too prefer komoot for planing and did create Garmin segments to match my Strava segments. During a few rides, they triggered as expected, during a few rides they did not trigger at all which might be related to the latest firmware (have to do some additional tests).

I it would be much easier if the matching / segment embedding would be done on Garmin's side (I think this is the way Polar is handling things) and it would be much easier for people to separate course planning and segment providers, however, it would require some calculation time on Garmin's servers and with all the people using GC and segments this would probably sum about to quite a bit of additional cost.
