Route sync, no POI?

Hi!

Im using RWGPS (paying customer) which I sync routes to my edge 830.

Up until now I've been using the IQ app, RWGPS native and also routeCourse, however since just some hours ago this can now be achieved via RWGPS -> GC + sync, without IQ app.

Brilliant, one less moving part that can fail.

However, using either way, native or IQ-app, I have not been able to get the POI's in the routes to tag along the sync.

Cleared routes in device and in RWGPS <-> GC, pinning back and forth.

Using FW 5.50.

Anyone succeded with this?

Cheers,

Chris

  • Adding some info myself a bit.

Might be subscription level matter in the client route tool / site, ie ridewithgps in my case.

If exporting a route as a file choosing GPX Track, and choosing using POI as waypoint, it "works". The POI is a notes on the map along the route.

Funny thing is that all POI as waypoints gets saved as locations in the edge unit.

  • By POIs do you mean the notes on the cue sheet in RwGPS?  If so they cannot be in GPX files.  You need TCX or FIT files.  Garmin calls them course points.

  • This is a bit confusing. Hear me out.
I always clear the cues, no cues used what so ever.
In RWGPS, I add POIs to the routes, and when exporting RWGPS has the option to add them as waypoints.
Im not quite sure what the detailed differences are between POI, cue and waypoints in respect to the different containers, gpx, fit or tcx.

    You know?

  • According to RwGPS help:

    Include POI As Waypoints?

The routes Points of Interest will be displayed separately from the route and depending on your device will remain in memory.

This sounds like the POI in the route gpx file will be saved as locations just like you have seen.

A POI is a location of a feature that is of interest for you.  You use them to mark a feature you want to keep a record of its location so you can find it in the future.  They are saved as locations in your Garmin and are separate from routes.  You can select to navigate to them without a preloaded course.

The cue sheet entries (course points in Garmin speak) define points that pop up text when you reach them while following the course.  This text can be navigation info or anything else you like.

TCX & FIT files can contain POI and cuesheet entries along with tracks.

GPX can only contain POI information along with tracks.

I would ask RwGPS support for more info if you need it.
