Indoor Trainer - Ride Course

-Paired my Edge 830 to my Wahoo Kickr as an Indoor Trainer.
-Created a route in Strava, synced it, and rode it using the Edge
-It worked quite well. I could see my location on the map, Kickr adjusted grade according to terrain. I even got ClimbPro.

But it felt too easy compared to IRL. I have my weight set correctly on the Edge

1. Does the Edge take bike weight into account when simulating an outside ride? I could not find anywhere to check/set this.
2. Is the Edge using the power or the speed information coming from the Kickr to simulate my progress?
3. Any other ideas why this felt too easy?

  • very good question, i want to ask nearly the same for Tacx Neo2

more or less i want to know, can i start the imported route from Strava on 830 and ride them in ERG mode on Neo 2?

  • Riding a course, the resistance is determined by the grade of the course.  You shift and pedal as desired, higher gear is harder and lower gear is easier.  You generate whatever power you can which determines your speed, as it does on the road.  Erg mode has a fixed power setting independent of cadence or gear.  That would not work for riding a course.

In Zwift, you can use Erg mode riding a workout.  Power is set by the workout and speed along whatever course you're on is whatever Zwift thinks that amount of power would generate based on the grade, wind resistance, etc..

  • thanks a lot, i will try it, when FW 5.50 is arround!

  • I believe you can set the 830 in ERG mode also so it controls your trainer's resistance accordingly.

  • good to know, then i will try both ways!

  • Yes.  The resistance will be controlled to produce whatever power you set (say, 150W)  irrespective of cadence or gear.   It will not be controlled by the terrain profile on a simulated course.
