I know how to make auto ride upload work

If you're like me and you're furious that you can't get your Edge 830 to automatically upload rides, fret no more. I had bluetooth and wifi both turned on. This creates some kind of race condition which prevents the 830 from ever syncing rides to your phone to be uploaded to Garmin Connect. Just turn off wifi and it will work like magic. Just like it used to work with my 510.

  • Thanks. My Edge 830 seems to upload quickly with BT and WiFi enabled, but I will keep this in mind if I have trouble in the future.

  • ...or you can use Wifi, if you have it setup. So, alternatively, you can turn off bluetooth and leave wifi on, and when you get home the Edge will sync up. But that's the effect of doing it this way - you have to wait to get home to sync, but it's faster.

  • I'd prefer Garmin just fixed this.

  • I have never had a problems getting either to work with both enabled.  That said, I usually keep BT off until I actually go out for a ride then pair it with my phone just before I start the activity.  When I save, it is uploaded by the time I can put the bike away.  On my indoor rides I don't even bother with BT.  Once I hit save, the WiFi connects and uploads before I can take my shoes off.  Both options work so well, the only time I plug my Edge into the computer is to load beta FW.  Released FW updates usually show up during a WiFi Sync.

  • I have both WiFi and Bluetooth enabled all the time and my edge always auto uploads when I’m done.

If I’m at home, WiFi seems to kick in. If not, Bluetooth catches it nicely.

I didn’t realise there was an issue with this?

The only problem I’ve seen with uploads is if your phone creates a duplicate Bluetooth profile for the edge. Just delete one of the profiles and it works fine - but I’ve only seen this once, having owned two edges so far.

  • There are supposed to be two Garmin BT profiles on the phone. On my Android phone they are associated with different icons and are used for different purposes.  For a while I thought these were normal BT and BTLE, but that may not be the case. One may be for transferring files/data, like uploading rides, and the other for phone notifications/texts, etc...
