Pre loaded courses on my new Garmin 830.

Under mtb trail navigation there’s 13 courses that were on the unit when I brought it from new. I’m not sure if there pre installed by Garmin or if this is a returned unit by another person who hasn’t put it back to factory settings. I can’t seem to be able to delete them either. Did anybody else have courses on there unit when they brought theres from new. Thanks in anticipation.

  • Sounds like you got a refurbished unit.  Garmin doesn't send out new devices with pre-loaded courses.  You can delete courses directly from the unit itself or delete them in Garmin Connect and then re-synch the 830..

  • You can also restore to factory reset, and then set it up the way you want it. Yeah it sounds like a refurb.

  • Refurbed units I got were indistinguishable from new.  The units turned on and prompted setup the same as a new unit.  There were no spurious files on the them.  It would be weird for referbs not have their drives wiped and new firmware installed.

    1. I’ve contacted Garmin regarding the13 pre loaded courses and they have said that because I purchased the mtb bundle it may have courses pre loaded by Garmin. I also mentioned numerous other problems I’m having with it such as freezing up, which I’m sure it loses ride data when it does freeze on a ride, starting a ride automatically when it’s sat on the table, which is fine if you’re there to stop it but if your not you pick it up to go for a ride and the battery’s flat or low. It’s now stopped uploading rides when I get home from a ride, but then a few days later it will upload it. Garmin have offered to replace it with a refurbished unit which I find totally unacceptable as I purchased a new unit and not a refurbished one.

This is user error.  The unit is getting enough of a GPS lock indoors but it is very poor so it thinks it is moving which triggers the auto start and drains the battery.  The solution is to turn the unit off when you aren't using it.
