Just a few Strava Segments - where is the rest?!?

Hi, i am new to 830. before i used edge 1000.

with 830 i have the problem, that there are just a few Segments on it. i have about 100 segments in STRAVA marked as favourites. but just 20 (!) are on edge 830.

is there a limitation?!? when i delete a segment, which IS on 830, it just loads 1 new.

well, if it is so: this is nonsense. there are so much free KB on the  830, why i cant use it for hundreds of segments?!

software is 5.1. so what can i do?!

  • Well that is crap! I just starred 2 of my climbing segments and they have appeared straight away on my device after sync. Im not sure when this was introduced, but I used to have 40 or 50 downhill live segments on my edge 830. Now I just have the 2 climbing ones. What use is that to a mountain biker???? Having said that, it aint much use to a roadie either. I had a segment on there that was 2 miles long and dropped elevation by about 50ft - that has gone also.

  • I think it's an idiotic feature that Strava is forcefully implementing...

I get that they'd rather not have downhill segments enabled, but then at least have the feature somewhere in settings with a safety disclaimer and allow users to enable the segments.

The majority of the segments I want saved are downhill segments. Strava has lost a few Summit customers, as many pay for the membership just for live segments...

Anyways, a work around is as follows, however, it does involve more steps but it's free and works well.

First, you'll have to visit Connect.Garmin on your web browser and disable Strava segments, or more accurately enable Garmin segments.

    Then visit doogalbellend.blogspot.com
Here you can view any Strava segment, and even have it connect your Strava account so that you can download the segments with your PR times...

Download the FIT files of the segments you want, and place them into your Garmin device's "NewFiles" folder.
The segments get installed into the proper location after a device boot up, and the device should also update your PR times as you ride the segments... note that this only gets done after the upload and synchronisation after your rides.

  • Cheers for that, Ill give it a go. I have now cancelled my Strava summit account, although Im paid up unit next march. I have started using Trailforks now, for navigation to start of a segment. I have created a few segments on trail forks that are identical to the Strava ones, but it seems to be taking a while to get uploaded.
