Fenix 5 plus as HR-Sensor for Edge 830

I would like to display HR values on my Edge 830. The best solution would be to use my Fenix 5 plus for this purpose. Up to now I only found the Broadcast-Function for this purpose. This is working but it has the big disadvantage, that the screen of the Edge is completely replaced by the Fenix screen. Therefore, the specific Edge functions (maps, navigation etc.) are not longer visible.

Is there a way to show the HR values of the Fenix directly in the HR-datafield of the Edge 830?

  • Sounds like you're using extended display rather than broadcast HR

You should just set the Fenix to broadcast HR and then add it as a heart rate sensor. See instructions below

    https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/fenix5/EN-US/GUID-D8D363C2-0690-48D4-95E2-A3557E7D53C2.html

  • I tested the Broadcast mode and the Edge 830 received HR signals perfectly. BUT this solution has another disadvantage: Beeing in this mode, the Fenix 5+ is not longer usable for other function. I have also the Garmin radar light RTL511 connected to the Fenix, to regognize approaching cars by the vibration signal of the Fenix (which is ver helpful, especially in windy conditions, when acoustic signals are dificult to hear).

The problem seems to be, that the broadcast function does not run in multitasking mode.

  • You can setup "Broadcasting Heart Rate Data During an Activity" on the watch, start activity on the watch + start activity on the Edge (now the watch also broadcast the HR to the edge [of course needs pairing]), and finally at the end of the activity choose to keep both activity or discard the one on the watch or the one on the edge device.

    HTH.
