Unable to stop activity on new Edge 830

Hi guys,

I recently got an Edge 830 and I've used it on three rides. However, I am having trouble getting it to "stop" the timer and finish my activity. I press the pause button and nothing happens. If I press the "lap" button then a new lap begins, and I get a sound when I press the "pause" button immediately after starting a new lap suggesting that the button is working. However, I can't finish my activity and I get stuck into an infinite loop of auto-pausing and auto-starting when I pick up the device.

Am I doing something wrong/stupid? Or could there be a problem with my Edge? The only way I've managed to finish my rides is to power off the device. I've had to do a hard-reset once already. The software is version 5.20.

You should press the stop/start button at the bottom right of the device then press "Save Ride" on the screen.

Sure - this is what the documentation says. But at the end of the ride when I press the stop/start button, nothing happens and I'm not able to finish or save my ride.

The button works fine once I've power-cycled the device but stops working again. Will try it one more time tonight. or it could be going back to the shop!

Couldn’t get my activity to even start tonight. I think they only started previously because I used POI navigation. Tried to power cycle and I’m just stuck on a black screen with a backlight on. Second time this has happened this week, I fixed it previously by connecting it to my laptop but it’s clearly not behaving correctly so going back to the shop.

I had this issue this morning resulting in a few swear words. I ended up powering it down. After a while I powered it back up and then I was able to stop the activity. My 830 was a replacement for my 820 because that didn't have the battery life I need for the length of rides I've been doing and so far I have been impressed with it. I'm hoping this was a glitch.

I replaced the remote battery which solved this issue.

nfp40uk What do you see on your Edge when you press the Start/Stop button during an activity?

My Garmin is brand new with software version 9.5 and I am having the same problem. Pushing the stop activity button just gives me a beep and no new info on the screen. So in order to save an activity, I have to do a hard power off and then when powered on it will ask me if I want to save the last activity. If I don't get a solution soon, the unit will be returned.
