Is creating a course similar between connect app and own garmin 830?

Hello guys. Can anyone provide me information about course creation on the 830 devices? It's absolutely identical with Garmin Connect, or had some extended functionality?
I choose between 530 and 830 and I'm have really scared about the sensor because very often ride on wet and dirty trails.
But I always created the track with the GC before, and I don't want to miss some cool stuff....

I don´t have much experience with the device yet but I don´t think that creating a course on the device itself would offer any extended functionality. I´d expect that using GC on a computer would offer much better functionality and be much more user-friendly. Course creation on the device is probably good as a last resort, but if you have a few minutes beforehand it'd probably be easier and maybe even less time-consuming creating it on a computer.

  • Yeah.  On your computer using GC or other similar apps and on some phone apps, (I use RideWithGPS) you can pick the course in detail deciding which exact roads you want to take, etc.  You can use satellite views and street views to help decide.  On the 830, it chooses the course based on a few criteria you set, so you have little control over it.    I can't remember ever using the on-board routing capability of an Edge device.
