Constant "deleting segment" popups

Pretty much every time I turn the thing on, I get a "deleting segment" notification. Sometimes immediately, sometimes after a few minutes of staring at ride data. Sometimes, if I'm staring at the ride summary and the "deleting segment" notification pops up, once it's done it takes me off the summary screen. I wouldn't care if I knew what it was actually deleting, but I can't tell if this is some sort of bug. Is it really always updating and deleting segments every time I turn it on? I'm also assuming it's talking about strava segments, as I don't have any garmin segments saved.

  • Strava segments are pretty much broken on my 530 device after my last Beta update but I can't say its due to the software.

Constant "Download Complete" and "Deleting Segment" notifications

Most of my segments don't sync and my PR's don't update properly.

I hope it's just a temporary bug with connecting to Strava

  • I emailed and just got a response back from Garmin. They told me to connect the 830 to Garmin Express on my computer and that should resolve the issue. I'm not optimistic about it. Even if it does it seems like it's going to be doing that every single time. I will say that the segment seemed to have worked fine so long as I preload us Strava route from the IQ app on each ride. Otherwise yeah, it never knows which one hundred from the list I'm going to ride so it ends up not loading any because it doesn't have them stored.

  • I've tried all methods of syncing, which included Express on my computer. It didn't work. If I disable Strava segments and enable Garmin segments and sync with express then the edge unit will still show strava live segments in the training menu and not just segments as it should. Switching on Strava Live Segments again only loads an incomplete list of segments, which is also visible in the list of instal files in Express.

Every time I boot the Edge it notifies me of downloads and deleted segments but the list of segments never changes.

  • Your last sentence is interesting. I could have dealt with the constant updating and deleting if it was clearly doing something, but the fact that the segment list stays the same seems to indicate it's not. Unless, it has to reload PRs, KOMS, etc, every time new data is made available on strava, which could be daily. I've asked garmin to at least indicate what is actually happening when it says deleting/updating, if it's not actually a bug in my latest email to them.

  • I've reported the problem too. My Strava Segments stopped being updated properly some time before the 22nd of Feb, which is when I noticed my PR times not being updated. Since installing the Beta 5.31 starring segments doesn't do anything. I notice less than half the segments I star on Strava actually make it to the Edge unit.

The more I fiddle with this the worse it gets. I'm at a point now where I have had to switch off live segments as nothing is working properly anymore Joy

  • Interesting. Does that hold true when you use a strava IQ app route? Mine seems to be working fine so long as I follow a Strava IQ app route. I know there's some stupid rule that the unit itself can only hold 100 starred popular segments in the area for freerides, so basically you'd be missing a ton in my area, but that does not hold true if you follow a route. You still get every segment along the route you've starred. Ideally it would just hold every starred segment you ever ride. I for the life of me can't understand how it could hold every street name in North America, but can't store more than 100 segments, or better yet, at least the only 1000 I ever ride.

  • I only have my Strava starred segments synced, not including popular ones in the area.
I've drastically culled down my selection to about 8 segments, down from about 40. My EDGE only shows 4 of these.

I don't ride routes. I find the feature to be completely pointless for my riding and it ends up frustrating me more than helping me. I would have to deliberately ride a route next time with some segments to see if it catches all of them.

  • I share the same sentiment about routes. My whole point in purchasing was to be able to ride wherever I wanted whenever I wanted and have more than 100 starred segments working and populated, however, I guess I didn't read the fine print. Thus, now I try the routes tactic, however, I would say the last few times I've been more frustrated than relieved when I miss a turn and wonder whether or not the unit is going to just tell me to u-turn for the next hour even if I take the next street up and reconnect.

  • Hi!   I started having this issue a week ago and I was able to fix it (at least for me anyways). What I did was I got into the menu setting on my Garmin Edge > Device Reset > delete data and reset settings.  After this is done, go to your Garmin connect app, click on your edge device and click on “forget device” option.  Also, do not forget to delete this device on your Bluetooth setting. When all of this is done,  just reconnect your Edge again as if it’s a new device.

please let me know (anyone really) if this worked for you.  Good luck!

  • Thanks. I haven't done this because I dont particularly feel like having to set up my various profiles and their respective pages. Not sure why these settings can't be backed up. At least this was the case last time I needed to reset the device completely.
