Battery save mode with Garmin remote

The Garmin remote is not waking up my Edge 830 after battery save mode has kicked in. It is kind of annoying to be forced to touch the screen first to make the remote work. Will this get fixed in an update?

  • That is interesting, I was not able to reproduce the issue you described with an edge 830 and an edge remote. Every time the 830 went to sleep in power save mode I was able to wake it up with the remote. I was using the Edge 830 beta software. I have included the link to the beta sw below. If this does not resolve the issue please reach out to us through support.garmin.com for further troubleshooting.

  • Thanks for the beta-link and your advice. I installed the 5.31 beta successfully but unfortunately the issue is still the same. The remote works as long as the display is on. After the save mode turns off the display the remote does not turn it back on. I have to touch the display to continue. This happens at 100% of all attempts. Any Idea?

Actually what happens is that cycling through pages by the remote works without the display waking up! I just realised from trying carefully. Just writing a support request under support.garmin.com, thanks for your help, Jorg

  • The support told me it is supposed to be like that!!! But why is your remote waking up the display after it went to sleep from power save mode! I have no clue how to solve this. Why should I use a remote that does not wake the device and makes me use my hand without a remote while driving? What's the design purpose of a remote then?

Hi there.. sorry for posting 9 Month later, bit maybe someone else has the same problem and I found a solution.

I had the same problem with the Garmin 1030 + and I found out that the error occured due to the alarms set in energy-saving modes. After I turned on all the alarms there, everything worked fine. The cause was probably disabling the system alarms

  • Hey there, as this is long ago, just a quick note: After being redirected to the German support, we went through possible causes but couldn't find any. In the end I did a reset of my Edge 830 (which might have also caused the system alarms to be set back?). Since then waking up the screen with the remote worked as supposed. On every ride, no exceptions. I am glad this solved it for me. Ride safe & all the best.
