Nutrition Tracking Increments

Is the increment for nutrition tracking in 100 calorie intervals? This seems like too large an increment for a 90 minute ride. Sure, on a 4 hour ride, your calorie intake estimate might be off by that much, but on 90 minutes 100 calories could make quite a difference. Just curious if the increment is truly 100 calories, or if my screen was acting funny since it was 20 degrees out.

  • i looked on my past two 01:30:00 rides, one base ride and one pace ride, they are nearly similar, but dfferent, but you mean the screen, where you can enter nutrition any hydration?

    base:

    pace:

it looks like on hydration lost and nutrition lost i  have the same values, i set nutrition to 0 after ride and hydration to that i drunk

  • At the end of the ride when the edge 830 asks how many calories you took in, it appears you can only do so in increments of 100, rather than something more reasonable like increments of 10, or even 20. The fluid intake seems to allow smaller increments, I just don't understand why my only option is to select 100, 200, 300, etc... calories. That leaves a lot of room for margin, which is counterproductive to dialing nutrition in, which seems to be the whole purpose of the functionality.

  • i haven't look in the settings for nutrition, because mostly i don't eat anything, but for hydration you can set more or less the bottle size, i set them to 1000ml so i can easily use 500ml and 750ml bottles.

i looked arround, a power bar gel has 440kcal and that you want to enter in this screen, without editing them later in the uploaded ride?

i am not sure, but could possible that you couldn't find nutrition in any statistic, so it's more or less a approximate value to see when you ride this workout again

  • Ahhh, thanks for your response. I didn't realize I could just edit in Garmin Connect. The increments on the edge are 100, but I had 360 calories yesterday on my 1.5 hour ride. I entered 400 on the edge 830 at the end when it asked me, but I can go into GC to update the value to be more accurate. It still would me nice if I could have just entered 360 calories right on the edge 830. Also, I agree with your last sentence, but I'm hoping we get some more useful graph in the future with for instance, how many calories we've taken in at different durations, and maybe even a "feeling" indicator to help see if we overdid it or if we got it just right.
