How do I uninstall a Data Field, that can't be uninstalled?

I like to remove "MapDashboard" https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/97f56207-1d78-4b5a-8bd7-59a573fbd587#0

But I get an error message when I try to remove it.

I'm not running/displaying the data screen at all, so I would have thought I could remove it.

I bought the device yesterday and installed "Public Beta 5.25" and used it for the first time time.

Is the only way to remove it, to reset the device?

Thank you.

Never mind, I reset the device.

  • For anyone else with the same issue.

you can go to the garmin/apps folder when connected to a computer. All the installed apps and data fields will be there but with random names ending in .prg. It’s hard to figure out which is which with the random naming but deleting all and reinstalling is easier than resetting the entire device

  • Thank you very much for your help Thumbsup

  • I don't have an edge830 around to verify, but I do have an edge1030 handy. The software between these devices is pretty similar.

I'm able to uninstall a data field if that data field is not in use by an activity profile. If I try to uninstall a data field that is being used by a profile, I get Something went wrong, try again. from ConnectIQ 2.0.1.2 and Uninstall Error from Connect 4.29.1.1 on iOS. If I modify the data screen to not use the data field, the uninstall proceeds as expected.

Using this method. Would you be able to uninstall the dreaded virtual partner?

Look in the GarminDevice.xml file under the /garmin folder and look for a mention of the field you want to get rid of.  It references the exact field name of the app file you need to delete.
