What should Autozoom do when I come out of a turn?

Following a course, with Autozoom on.  As I approach a turn, Autozoom zooms in to show the turn.  As I come out of the turn, what should the Autozoom do?  Should it return to the zoom level I had it set to before I entered the turn?

  • No responses here (no one else uses Autozoom??) so I called Garmin support to ask my question.  On my Edge, when navigating a course, as I come out of a turn the Autozoom stops at 300 ft, regardless of what the zoom level was before I entered the turn.  So after every turn, I need to manually zoom back out by tapping the screen.  (I typically like to have it a 0.2 mi.)

The support tech agreed that this is NOT how Autozoom should work -- it should zoom back out to the previous level prior to Autozooming in.  He is going to submit it to the development team to have this corrected in a future software update.

  • Thank you for the info -- I hope this will be implemented and autozoom feauture become usable.

  • Hi,

it seems the issue is not fixed. What about your devices?

  • I actually turned autozoom off a few weeks ago because I was tired of having to manually zoom back out after every turn.  At the time the was still not fixed obviously.  It's pretty annoying that Garmin admits this is a bug, that it took a user informing them to become aware of it, and that it still isn't fixed.

  • Still not fixed with v5.50?

  • The Autozoom worked the same way on my old 820. Irrespective what you had your zoom set to, it would zoom in and then zoom out only to a set zoom, not the previously set zoom.

I found this set zoom far to close in so it was useless.

Have had it turn off since.

It would be great if it zoomed back out to the level you'd manually set. Please Garmin!

  • Have the same issue. Got in touch with garmin support and got my device replaced. Exactly the same issue :-(. Know from others edge 820 has same behavior, but on my old 810 this works perfect. So moving to 830 was for navigation at least a step back.

  • I find it kind of strange and somewhat humorous that Garmin Support would not know that this is how autozoom on the 830 currently functions, and secondly think that it is due to a defective device (not defective software) and replace the entire unit.

  • Wanted to post an update on this topic.  I emailed the tech support guy who helped the first time to ask about the status of fixing this.  He replied that it's actually not a bug and is how autozoom was designed.  The device will adjust the autozoom after coming out of a turn to a level based on your speed.  In my experience, this is always 300 ft.  So Garmin isn't going to fix anything.

To me, this makes autozoom useless.  300 ft. is way too close of a level for my preference, and after every turn I have to manually zoom back out.  I am going to submit an enhancement request (but I feel like that just goes into a black hole).

  • It is a bug, not a feature to not come back to the original zoom level after a a turn. Formal bug compliant, now, again.
