New Edge 830 Public Beta 5.24 Now Available

A new Beta software (5.24) for the Edge 830 has been released. Full change log, instructions, and software for installing the beta can be found here.

  • For any issues that you encounter please fill out the form included in the download and attach it to an email to [email protected]. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.
  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.

Changes made from version 5.10 to 5.24:

  • Indoor Riding Improvements
    - Added the ability to set system time using WiFi or Bluetooth when GPS is not available.
    - Added a Free Ride indoor trainer mode that enables the trainer to be set to a target grade.
    - Added a 'Remind Me' prompt for the trainer search.
    - Made a change so LiveTrack is not started automatically for indoor or virtual activities.
    - Prevent light network from forming indoors.
  • Elevation and ClimbPro Improvements
    - Added grade coloring to the elevation chart.
    - Added grade coloring for segments.
    - Changed the Time to Destination data field to show estimated time to the top of the climb if ClimbPro is activated.
    - Fixed an issue with cumulative ascent and ClimbPro not working properly when a course is transferred from Garmin Connect.
    - Fixed incorrect category colors on the ClimbPro page.
  • Made Mountain Bike feature settings available in all activity profiles to allow for Grit, Flow, and Jump data metrics to be enabled if desired. These remain turned off by default for all non-MTB profiles.
  • Added the ability to configure the minimum ride length that should prompt for Nutrition/Hydration intake.
  • Added the ability to customize the activity track color on the map.
  • Fixed an issue where GPS satellites were lost more often than they should be.
  • Improved Bluetooth friendly names to include BLE and BT so they can be distinguished from each other.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause unit-to-unit transfers to fail.
  • Fixed an issue with OSM roundabouts giving incorrect guidance.
  • Fixed an issue where the Course Creator out-and-back was not working properly.
  • Integrated the ability to use cached weather data for Firstbeat analysis.
  • Updated the turn review map page so the distance on the top left of the screen updates and the data field on the bottom left shows Heading.
  • Made OK the first response for LiveTrack and Text Message response prompts to minimize interaction while riding.
  • Improved the Reset HR Zones and Reset Power Zones behavior to only reset the zones and not the Max HR value or FTP.
  • Made it easier to switch between the month/week view in the Training Plan calendar page.
  • Fixed the alert sound not working when a workout is complete.
  • Fixed false level of timer precision on Garmin segments.
  • Fixed handling for long course names.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the device to lock up.
  • Fixed ANT+ shifting data not being correctly written to FIT files.
  • - Added a 'Remind Me' prompt for the trainer search.

worked first time on my second ride, but it seems working now! Upside down

or better, i was able toset it to don't remind me!

  • I tried most all the other colors and they were all worse, especially when considering the change from day to night mode map coloring. So cyan really seems to be the only logical choice though magenta would work well too. The line is super thin though and that makes it most difficult to see.

  • best choice of color under aspect of visibility is light green.

But as already confirmed by a lot you are totally right. BIGGEST issue is in every mode lines are far too thin.

For me that is the BIGGEST ISSUE of the 830 currently. In general this time they did a much better job as for the last launches.

  • Did you take look the map visibility mode "High Contrast"?

Activity Profile -> Navigation -> Map -> Map Visibility -> Map Visibility Mode -> High Contrast

  • High Contrast doesn't help for the thickness of lines of any track
You can go to "user defined" and see what options you have. Nothing about the lines of track

  • Great improvement, but already found a little issue.

The choices for track colour in navigation do not contain the std magenta. So when you choose any different, you can't switch back.

Futher the bigger isses was the width of the track line and not only the color choice. So would be great to get an option for that as well.

  • There is going to be confusion over the track coloring feature.

There are two main types of track, your past and future tracks.

Your past track is where you have ridden and this is what Garmin had provided a color choice for.

Your future track is when you are using the navigation features and shows the path to follow. This currently has no user color control and is magenta. This is why you cannot select magenta for your past track color.

  • - Added a 'Remind Me' prompt for the trainer search.

it didn't work, the reminder came back today!

This would make mountain biking a trail network (that isn't found in trailforks) SO much better.

  •  want to inform you, that the new added feature “Added a 'Remind Me' prompt for the trainer search”
on Garmin Edge 830 Firmware 5.24 Beta don’t work correctly.

I get a message after starting Edge 830 that my Trainer (Tacx Neo 2) is found in german language as you can see in

    screenshot:

    !

but when I press “X” on the next screen to not remind me to setup later

as in the next screenshot "(it's mixed in german and English language) both screens

come back, when I start my Edge the next time, again the Trainer is found and again I have to setup true both screens.

Hope it’s possible to disable soon, because atm I only use my Edge 830 indoor
