Why does the Edge calculate saved routes

Hi,

I'm trying to understand why or what the edge (830) is calculating a saved route.

When ever I want to navigate a pre planed route from Komoot or one which is saved on the Edge itself it needs to do calculations in the beginning.

I get it if I would do routing on the device itself. But I don't understand what it is calculating for the ones which are already set. Is it for Time est. or Turn By Turn Navigation?

Thanks

Flo

  • Just found the answer myself. It is the Turn Guidance. Sadly it is hidden in a separate Navigation Setting menu: Navigation -> Courses -> Saved Courses -> Hamburger Menu -> Turn Guidance. I don't get why they not putting it into the main Navigation Settings. If it is turned off you can start the course right away without any calculations but you losing the Turn Guidance. But sometimes I know 95% of the route but like to have the course for just the 5% and for this I anyway prefer to check the Map.

  • The file you are loading is just a track. It doesn’t contain names of roads or turn instructions (*).

The unit calculates the turn instructions by “walking” the track to figure out what roads on the installed maps the track appears to be following.

    * The file could contain “course points”, which are turn instructions but not the same as the big white arrows.

“Course points” are intended to provide basic turn instructions for units that don’t use map.
