My 830 recorded power/HR/TIme today and it would show me correctly on the map, but it would not record distance and the route wasn't in the file. Any ideas? It's a buggy little guy, that's for sure!

I have no speed sensor - using GPS only. Here is my Strava activity which was recorded with my Edge 830 and uploaded to Strava: https://www.strava.com/activities/3393404186 It's about 5.1 miles to Broadway and Canal from my starting point - round trip-ish - plus I rode additional distance to get across the park at the start - should have registered at least 10-12 miles. Garmin unit had me at 7.4. Funny thing is that as I was riding, I realized that speed was recording but mileage was flat - no movement. I realized this and ended the activity - then started a new Garmin activity. Here is the 2nd Garmin activity on Strava: https://www.strava.com/activities/3393475065
That is indeed strange, that speed was recording, but not distance since distance = rate (speed) x time, and you say you are recording both speed and time. I was gonna say you lost GPS signal, but that can't be if you're recording speed.
Speed will register on the UI and distance will not accumulate if the timer has been stopped for some reason.
When I initially noticed that the mileage wasn't registering, I assumed that I had pressed pause and tried to unpause by clicking the button, but the red square was then displayed. I then pressed it again and the Green arrow appeared. I didn't try to ride while it was red - maybe some software glitch that was causing a reverse toggle situation? Anyhow...pause button was my first thought.
Same thing was happening to me. GPS signal was strong, but recording everything except correct distance. I traded my 830 in for a wahoo after 5 rides because of this unfortunately.
Been a Garmin Edge guy for 8 years or so after I switched from Polar. I also love and rely on the Varia tail light as I ride in the New York area. If not for the Varia - I would definitely swap for a Wahoo. Just too many software issues with Garmin units. Quality is a big issue for Garmin for sure. Hoping this issue never occurs again.
Having just completed a ride with great navigation step by step, got to the end to find it had not recorded more than a meter distance right at the end. I.e when I pressed the stop button, it started recording! I think we are all starting the garmin in the wrong way.
I select the route from the komoot app, press start then Mtb profile then? Never sure if you should then press the start button at the bottom right or if that selecting the profile is enough? Perhaps I am missing a step somewhere.
