Garmin edge 830 no speed and distance with Tacx Neo 2T

When I use Trainer Road with my Tacx Neo 2T and edge 830 I don't get any distance and speed, when disconnecting the Tacx from the computer there distance and speed are shown on edge 830. I have also tried connecting my Fenix 6 and it is working fine. Both the edge 830 and Fenix are connected with Ant+ to power and speed and cadance. The computer are connected with Bluetooth.

Anyone know how I get distance shown on my Edge?

Thanks very much in advance

  • Start riding on the Neo.  Make sure the Edge unit is paired correctly to the Neo.  Go into the sensor details and make sure the wheel size is set to a sensible number.  Look at a speed data field and see if you are getting a speed value.

Be aware though that speed and distance data are irrelevant when using a turbo so it doesn't matter that much if you don't get those numbers.  You can do the exact same workout with different gears on the bike and have different speed/distance data but the effect on you will be the same as Trainerroad will make sure the power required by you is the same whatever gear the bike is in.

  • Thanks very much for your reply!
I know that it has no impact on the power, but I like the distance for my statistic ;-)
The Edge is set to automatic in wheel size, and as I mentioned it is working fine when the trainer is disconnected from the computer or I am using Ant+ on the computer. I know that bluetooth can only be connected to on device at a time, that is why I am using Ant+ on the Garmin devices.

  • Try setting the wheel size for the Neo to a specific number, not automatic, on the Edge.

  • I might ride my road bike for 1 hr and go 18 miles and I might ride my mtb with an equivalent level of effort and go 8 miles.  I ride the trainer with an equivalent effort and it's zero miles.   Miles is not a good measure of fitness accomplishment.  Keeping track of actual outdoor miles can be legit, but adding in trainer miles is not, IMO.

  • It’s not an indication of relative effort but I’d much rather my workouts showed something rather than nothing so I’d be frustrated if I got zero mileage when logging rides on my trainer.

  • I suggest using hours rather than miles.  For me, 1 hr on road bike, 1 hr on the mtb, and 1 hr on the trainer are roughly equivalent accomplishments, despite the mileage be 18, 8 and 0 respectively.

  • Yes but that isn’t the question the OP asked.

so to the OP I’d suggest making 100% sure the sensors are definitely connected by ANT+ by deleting and re-pairing and making sure a sensor ID is shown and not a name as the behaviour described sounds like it’s a BT connection. Especially likely if paired on an older firmware which used to show BT first.
