Alternative charging way for Edge 830?

Hi Everbody, I wonder whether is it possible to charge the unit through its external battery connections (five point pins) at the back side of the device, by a compliant DC adapter? My point in asking this questions is that the usual micro USB port loosens and deforms in time after frequent use and you may probably end up changing the port on the chipset which is a nightmare operation. However, the pins at the back side are more solid. Does anybody have any idea? Please don't tell me to buy an external battery cos it's way expensive.

  • IDK the answer to your question, but problems with the usb port are not inevitable.  I've had Edge units since 2010, each in frequent use for a number of years and haven't had issues with their usb ports.  Among many fellow riders i know, I don't know of any of them having had issues either.  Being careful to not put undue stress on the connection is probably the reason.

That said, charging by those contacts on the bottom is an interesting idea.  It'd be cool if they implemented wireless charging at some point.

  • Thank you for your reply. I had an issue on the usb port with my edge 1000 device back 2 years ago. That's why I addressed such a question. Wireless charging is the key.. ;)
