Battery drain for 830 when switched off?

The battery lifetime when the device is on is really great. However, when I switch it off completely (i.e. Power off - not sleep!) battery drains completely. I did not remember this behaviour from my Edge 810....

Is there some setting I need to pick? Does the Edge wake up and does some updating in the background? I cannot imagine this, but still would like to know.

That was some 6-8 weeks ago; never had any trouble after that.

  • TX!! After resetting it was still ab 5.10. So how can I update to that version? I bought it around 10 months ago. Is it possible that I bought it already with that version?

  • thx. reused the device.fit and settings.fit. this prevented from losing the connection to ant+ devices and phone. had to set my sport profiles again. but that is no big deal. Situation seems to have improved. to 1% loss op battery in 1 or 2 days . so not that bad, but still worse then the 810.

  • Thx smbjerke. did improve the situation to a loss of 1% per 1-2 days. worse then the 810 who did not lose any, but manageble in active periods. Lucky this works because Garmin Support in Europe managed by Garmin UK seems to give a big fat *** You the the NL costomers. They just send a no reply mail with look at this list for nation support, without the Netherlands in it. So probaly will have to go to court before receiving legal obliged support....

Me too! I charge with a wall charger - power off completely...a day later - nothing!

Good ! Perhaps you could upvote my answer ! :)

  • I have had my 830 since about August 2020, I have come across the 100% power situation a couple of times and I have been pretty diligent about making sure my unit was off by holding down the power button seeing the screen that says in red "Power Off". Lately it has been working as expected.

The 100% drain hasn't happened to for about 6 months but I do update to the beta firmware whenever something comes up (You can get Beta firmware from this forum). Maybe that's worth trying.

I do however get the 1-2% drain when the unit is off which is weird, either the battery control is crappy or it doesn't report to the unit the full power. Garmin please fix this.

I have virtually no drain in off mode after I carried out a reset and updated to 5.10. Se post above.

  • I used to get this all the time with my previous edges. 705, 800 and 1000. It used to happen after the charging cycle completed. You would think it has turned off, but it hasn't. Since then, after charging, I always switch the device on, wait for satellite signal and then turn off. Have had zero battery drain issues since adopting this ethic.

  • What if you are on 5.10? Do you need to reset of is being on 5.10 sufficient?
