What a joke....

I have owned the Edge 830 Performance bundle since release. I am happy with the size and speed of the device but have been having a plethora of issues. I have been patient and tried every single update (be it official or beta);

I have the following issues:

-GPS has been poor but today was the worst (tried both GPS+GLONASS and Galileo)- the unit had no idea where I was and was trying to help me navigate to the wrong address; it also kept zigzagging, especially when I was waiting at a traffic light; this happened across multiple activities during the same day

-Phone disconnecting 5 minutes into the ride- every single time, this is the second phone that the 830 just won't work with

-Live track not working

I finally decided to contact product support in the UK, who requested activity links to get the GPS issues looked into. I was informed that there have been no reports of any sensor disconnects, any live track issues or anything at all to do with GPS

I also got through to a manager, who confirmed that they have had no reports on their global ticketing system. I also also informed that if I want a refund I will have to go back to the retailer as my contract is with them and not with Garmin (4 months after purchase); Speechless...............

  • they keep releasing new chipsets (because all is working as promised) It's comical. Same for sensor disconnects. Why treat customers that way - be honest and tell "we r aware and working on it"

  • Don't know for how long you are member here, but if longer you may know I am complaining a lot and usually use very clear wording. Just to make you aware for the following I am not just a fanboy.

    What we need to understand is, that for some issues only a minority of user will be affected. And it could be sometimes really difficult to reproduce the issues. That happened for older devices already, like the 1000, where some issues stated happened to me, other not. But lets take a few of the 830 as example:

    -     GPS accuracy - I have notices inaccuracy even with the 2.42 Beta. Track was significantly beside the correct position on the map. Now with the 2.50 it is for ME more or less perfectly matching to the map position even in the woods. BUT if you read the thread about the 2.50 you will see not for everybody. So what? You need to be able to reproduce an issue to be able to fix it.

    -     Sensors - for ME it dropped not even one once. In addition there are 2 of 3 which NOT Garmin. It is even better than my 130, which still with the actual firmware sometimes not able to connect to the sensors at the beginning. That didn't happen to me on the 830

    Just telling it is not that easy as it looks sometimes.

    For me the biggest issue Garmin doing is, that they build full separate software for each device. I would get better if the would have something like a general OS/Firmware. So if something get fixed or improved it will be for all devices. They are wasting a lot of resources fixing/developing thing by device.

    Marketing always wins - so they have more and more features built in so that it wins on features....but a lot of buyers will find most of the advertised features don't work reliably. Unfortunately it's often too late by then as you've already bought it - Gotcha !

  • Most likely my last Garmin device. Never had any issues with my previous one Edge 200 e 810
