MTB Mileage different 530 vs 830

My 830 regularly records 10-20% less mileage compared to my friends (three of them have 530's). Over a 12 mile MTB ride, under heavy tree cover, my 830 is ALWAYS off by 10-20%. So today's ride, which has always been known to be 12 miles, a 530 measured 12 miles and my 830 measured 10.4 miles. For grins I also took my wifes Edge 25, which recorded 12 miles.

So, which one is correct? Garmin provided me a new beta GPS firmware but it did not appear to improve anything. They are also implying this is due normal "GPS drift". I disagree if mine, and only mine, is always 10-20% shorter than my friends 530.

Does the 530 and the 830 use the same GPS chipset? If so, they "should" record the same mileage. Yes, all computers are configured the same: 1-sec recording, GPS+GLONASS, Auto-Pause turned off, no hub speed sensors.

Any ideas?
