Understanding cues with RideWithGPS

I thought I read on this before but I can't find it. I typically take a route in RideWithGPS, and using Connect IQ will load it directly on my Garmin 830.

On some routes, I seem to get cues just fine over by BT headset. On other routes, I get a turn notification on the device, but no audio cues. The routes look similar on RideWithGPS; nothing obvious jumps out to me. This may be a Garmin thing, a RideWithGPS thing, or a setting somewhere. Any suggestions on what to check?

It has nothing to do with RWGPS. It has nothing to do with with the course file (or what was used to create it). You don't even need a course file (you can get visual and audio prompts from routes generated by the Garmin without a course file).

The Garmins calculate the "turn guidance" (the turn instructions) themselves by matching the roads on the internal map to the track points in the course file.

The voice prompts are just the Garmin sending these turn instructions to the phone to have it convert the words to speech.

It appears not to always work.
