Considering upgrading from element bolt.

I currently have an element bolt that I've had for a few years and with the release of the Edge 830 I'm considering making the switch. From reading the reviews it seems like it would be worth it but looking at the forums I'm not sure. Usually people only post about problem and not how amazing s device is. Theres allot of features I really want and my LBS had one in stock and can give me a good price. Is it really with the upgrade or should I hold off?

The new beta firmware seemed to have sorted a lot of problems

  • I did the switch from Bolt to 830 and after using them both on my road bike for a month I have just this week decided to keep the Garmin.

Biggest pro of the Bolt: It is reliable and just works. Basically it does what it promises to do.

Pro of the 830: Better screen especially for map display and the promise of lots of new features, especially for MTB.

The 830 software has tons of bugs compared to Wahoo, it seems like they put out new features without proper development or testing... weak GPS, sudden in-ride crashes, terrible turn-by-turn... to be honest I almost returned it.

I am glad I was able to use them side by side for a while, a hard switch would have been frustrating for sure.

Have often have you lost rides

  • My 830 has worked flawlessly. No phone integration issues or sensor problems. Map rendering and navigations great. Terrific battery life. Never impressed with Wahoo in this regard. Love the touch screen and is snappy. Best yet it interfaces nicely with the Garmin bike radar. Wahoo is nice but ancient in comparison to the 830 capabilities. I graduated from a Edge 520 and never liked the buttons.

  • I haven't lost complete rides. In the early days I had 2 or 3 in-ride crashes where Iwould end up with 2 rides instead of 1, and the time of the reboot missing. Annoying but not terrible.

Lately I only had one crash, but it happened before starting the ride.
