No text message notification

Running the latest firmware, on the garmin device under 'connected features - phone, this is enabled and under smart notifications in that section I have text messages, phone calls and other enabled.

On the garmin connect app on my samsung s8 plus phone under settings - smart notifications I have whatsapp and messages enabled. I also have email enabled and when my phone gets an email whilst out on a ride this comes through to the head unit...however...text messages and whatsapp messages do not.

Is this a known bug, if not what am I doing wrong?

How did you get it working? I have the same problem using firmware 3.5 on iOS 12.1.3. I get notifications for phone calls, social media, and "other" categories, but no luck with text / iMessage.

Someone in a forum elsewhere simply said, turn the text message option off (and whatever else isn't working) and turn it back on again. I was skeptical about this initially and although I had to do it 2- 3 times...it worked in the end. Text message notifications now come through for me.

On Android 12, when updating third-party messaging apps, Garmin Connect sets "Settings -> Notifications -> App Notifications -> (my SMS app)" to off (slider to the left). Setting it back to "On" immediately fixed the issue.

There's a good section on troubleshooting this in the watch's user guide as well.
